In the fall of 2006, I was looking for artists and art lovers in my small community of El Jardin, just north of Seabrook, Texas, with the vague idea of forming some sort of "art society". By making inquiries with friends and neighbors in the community, I came in contact with Carole Burwell, an acomplished artist that lives just 2 blocks away!

The community of El Jardin, which is on the north shore of Galveston Bay, has an annual celebration the first weekend in October, called BayFest. Carole and I, together with friends Richard Coberly, Veronica Veerkamp and Angie Cook, decided to show our art work at the festival. Our budding art group was pleasantly suprised at the response.

After the Bayfest show, we decided to form an on-going art group for local artists and art afficionados. The Artistsas del Mar was born.

After successful shows in December 2006 and April 2007, our membership has swelled to over 50 members and is still growing. The membership includes people at all levels of experience, from novice to award-winning artists in multiple mediums. The Artistas meet once a month to socialize, discuss art and plan art shows.

The Artistas' next art show will be on October 6th, 2007 at the El Jardin del Mar waterfront park. From Seabrook, Texas, the community of El Jardin del Mar is at the north end of Todville Road. Turn east on El Jardin Drive and stop just before you run into Galveston Bay.
